Proudly Serving Canadians: National Public Service Week 2012

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 8, 2012) - Today, the President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for FedNor, Tony Clement, asked Canadians to join him in recognizing National Public Service Week, which takes place June 10 to 16, 2012. This is the 20th anniversary of Parliament enacting the National Public Service Week: Serving Canadians Better Act. Since 1992, this annual celebration has underlined the important work of Canada's public service employees across the country to mark their achievements and contributions to the country.

"The federal public service delivers a wide range of programs and services to Canadians in very diverse work environments," said Minister Clement. "Each and every day, public servants rise to these challenges and help support Canadians' quality of life. I would like to thank all public service employees for their hard work throughout the year."

The highlight of National Public Service Week is on Monday, June 11th, when a ceremony will be held to honour the recipients of the 2012 Public Service Award of Excellence. This prestigious award recognizes employees of the Public Service of Canada-individuals and teams-who have demonstrated excellence, professionalism and leadership in serving Canadians.

Every day next week, the Treasury Board Secretariat will profile employees from regions across Canada who serve Canadians in a variety of fields on the National Public Service Week Web page. Please visit the Web page or follow @TBS_Canada on Twitter for links to the profiles and obtain further information about National Public Service Week.
