Northrop Grumman Demonstrates Joint Threat Emitter for NAS Whidbey Island


BUFFALO, N.Y, June 21, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) today announced the successful demonstration of the company's Joint Threat Emitter (JTE) in an electronic warfare (EW) range concept test that took place at the U.S. Naval Station Everett Annex in Pacific Beach, Wash.

During the demonstration, the JTE successfully engaged an E/A-18G Growler Electronic Attack Squadron from nearby Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash. The JTE allowed the squadron to train against the most sophisticated threats found on the modern EW battlefield and proved that the area can successfully support EW communications equipment and activity.

"Utilization of equipment such as the Joint Threat Emitter enables the Navy to provide the most realistic training for its combat aircrews, while providing significant cost savings to the squadrons located at Whidbey Island," said Joe Downie, site director of Northrop Grumman's Amherst Systems business unit.

The JTE is a mobile air defense threat simulator that enables aircrews to train in threat environments matching actual combat conditions. JTE offers "true" warfighter training and provides a modern, reactive battlespace war environment designed to help train military personnel to identify and effectively counter enemy missile or artillery threats. A multithreat, high-fidelity simulator with realistic effective radiated power levels, the JTE simulates both single- and double-digit surface-to-air and anti-aircraft artillery radar systems and accurately trains combat aircrews to defeat or avoid integrated air defense systems around the world in a war-like training environment.
