Tina Hill started a charitable group called Therapy Tails two years ago. This wonderful charity started out with six teams of dogs and their owners and now has 125 teams who visit nursing homes, schools, libraries, centres for developmentally handicapped individuals, centres for youth/children with mental health issues. They bring friendship and companionship to those in special need and help children in their reading skills. Tina also takes her own rescued sheep dog to schools for an anti-bullying program which shows children how an abused dog was bullied and turned into a bully and the children can relate well to the story and pledge not to bully, not be bullied or not to be a bystander.
"It is due to Tina's devotion and commitment to her dream that Therapy Tails is such a big success," declared Heather Deans who submitted the story in the Everyday Heroes contest. Tina Hill's story is one of many inspirational stories written about people who show tremendous generosity, courage and determination. The public voted for their top five favourite stories and the winner was selected by random draw. Tina received her cash prize today at the St. Catharines Cogeco Store.
Launched by Cogeco last April on their Facebook page, the campaign aimed to recognize the efforts of Everyday Heroes and to encourage good deeds in the community by urging its social media followers to take part in a simple and entertaining contest.
Cogeco welcomes the participation of all Ontario residents in this friendly competition. Hundreds have already submitted their stories and have nominated their Everyday Heroes.
