ServiceMaster Appoints Mark J. Barry President of American Home Shield

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Aug. 7, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The ServiceMaster Company, one of the world's largest residential and commercial service networks, announced today that Mark J. Barry will join the company as president of its subsidiary, American Home Shield, effective Aug. 20. He will report to ServiceMaster Chief Executive Officer Hank Mullany.

Barry will succeed David Crawford, who has announced that he'll be retiring from the company after more than 25 years with American Home Shield, an industry leader in home warranties servicing more than 1.3 million customers across 49 states. Crawford, who has served as American Home Shield president since 2006, will remain with the company to help ensure a smooth transition in the coming months.

Barry most recently served as president of United Technologies' Automation and Controls Solutions, a $3.2 billion Hartford, Conn.-based unit of UTC's Climate, Controls and Security business. The unit has a global portfolio of 50 companies that design, manufacture and sell security, fire, HVAC and building automation products.

"Mark's experience and sales leadership are a terrific fit for our growth strategies at ServiceMaster," said Mullany. "He brings a strong track record of executing on strategies that drive revenue growth and improve customer experience at world-class global companies. I'm confident that under Mark's leadership, we'll continue to transform American Home Shield into a rapidly growing, best-in-class service provider."

"I also want to thank Dave for his many years of service and greatly appreciate his willingness to stay on with us during Mark's transition," Mullany added.

Barry previously served as president of GE Security-Americas before it was acquired by UTC in 2010. Prior to joining GE, he spent seven years at Tyco International, including five as president of Tyco's Fire and Security Services Asia division, based in Singapore. While at Tyco, Mark led a multinational team of 11,000 employees in 12 countries, growing the division to $1 billion in annual sales of its electronic security systems; fire protection, detection and suppression systems; and related services.

He graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta with a bachelor of business administration degree.

In addition to its core focus on home protection plans, American Home Shield also issues and administers preventative maintenance contracts on major home systems and appliances in 48 states across the country. The Memphis-based company operates three customer service centers, employs approximately 1,600 employees and has a national contractor network made up of over 10,000 independent home-service contractors.
