2012 Asian Professionals Convention & Career Fair


NEW YORK, Aug. 16, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The largest Asian professionals meeting in North America, the NAAAP Convention and Diversity Career Fair, is coming to New York on August 23-25, 2012. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in its birthplace, New York City, the National Association of Asian American Professionals is pleased to partner with more than 40 corporate and organizational sponsors for leadership sessions, major speakers, awards ceremonies, and a fabulous Career Fair.  

August 23, 24, and 25 feature workshops on leadership styles, personal branding, work-life balance, business management, employee engagement, global teams, and Employee Resource Groups best practices.  On August 24 and 25, a free Career Fair co-located with the Convention, offers corporate information sessions, on-site job interviews, and résumé consultations.  Payment for the Convention or free registration for the Career Fair may be taken at naaapconvention.org and on-site at the Hilton New York.

Macy's will once again be the presenting/Diamond sponsor, of the NAAAP Convention.   This strategic partnership between Macy's and NAAAP underscores Macy's long-standing commitment to diversity as a key business driver and their enthusiastic engagement with the Asian American community.  Macy's Diamond sponsorship grew from its 2010 partnership with Women in NAAAP! and Macy's national observance of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in 2011.   Macy's will host an exclusive Friday night experience on August 24 in its Manhattan store for NAAAP Convention participants which will include a scavenger hunt  with fashion shows, demonstrations, and refreshments at each station.

Buick is co-sponsoring the NAAAP Gala dinner, the culminating event of the Convention which honors NAAAP100 winners and NAAAP Chapter Awards.  Five individuals – Doris Ching, VP at University of Hawaii, Richard Liu, MCNBC news anchor, Vivienne Poy, Senator of Canada, Ike Song, VP at Northrup Grumman, and Hines Ward, Former NFL Pittsburgh Steeler and Commissioner for the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders will be honored as NAAAP 100 winners -- senior Asians who have consistently demonstrated leadership, mentorship, and excellence.  Four have confirmed their participation in the Convention.  Every Gala attendee will be entered into a sweepstakes to win a Buick.

More than 40 employers, including  Northrup Grumman, Wells Fargo, Hewlett Packard, the Central Intelligence Agency, jcpenney, Comcast, McDonald's, the Coca Cola Company, and will be searching for entry level and seasoned talent at the Diversity Career Fair on August 24 and 25, a free event open to the public.

The 2012 NAAAP Convention and Diversity Career Fair is the marquee event of the National Association of Asian American Professionals which was founded in 1982 in New York.  The Convention features major speakers of Asian heritage including Don Liu (General Counsel of Xerox) and Ann Lee (author of What the U.S. Can Learn from China), skill development workshops, and professional networking opportunities.  Workshop topics including Women Never Sleep: Our Leadership Style, Persuasion and Getting Your Point Across,  Leading in Time of Tectonic Changes, and Chief Diversity Officers Q &A address a myriad of career development, change management, and team  issues in the global workplace.  The Diversity Career Fair assembles employers who seek diverse talent.   Organized jointly by NAAAP's national team and local chapter, the Convention rotates from New York in 2012 to Toronto in 2013.
