Closure of Shellfish Harvesting in the Maritime Areas of Quebec


QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 30, 2012) - Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, wants to inform residents of the North Shore and the south shore of the St. Lawrence, from Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies to Gaspé, that harvesting of any and all shellfish in these regions is closed as a preventative measure. Analyses are currently underway to determine shellfish safety in these areas. Fisheries and Oceans Canada also wishes to remind the public that harvesting shellfish in a closed area is prohibited.

This decision was made in accordance with the prohibition orders listed below and pursuant to subsection 3(1) of the Management of Contaminated Fisheries Regulations.
