ATCO Gas Commemorates 100th Anniversary With Historic Gift

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Aug. 31, 2012) - On September 2, ATCO Gas will mark its 100^th year of natural gas service in Alberta by donating an extensive historical collection representing its history and the development of the province's natural gas industry. Minister of Culture, Heather Klimchuk will accept the donation at the opening ceremonies of the Legislature building's centennial celebrations.

"This year marks 100 years of natural gas service in the province of Alberta, and this legacy gift is one of the many ways ATCO Gas is celebrating with our 1.1 million customers," says Bill Stephens, Senior Vice President & General Manager, ATCO Gas. "The collection traces the arrival of natural gas service in Alberta, how it transformed Albertans' day to day lives and helped shape entire communities."

The introduction of natural gas service in 1912 by Canadian Western Natural Gas, Heat, Light and Power, later to become ATCO Gas, provided a clean and convenient energy source for industry as well as modernized home heating and cooking for Albertans.

The Provincial Archives of Alberta will house the collection of over 25,000 early photographs, film reels and documents making the records available to all Albertans.

The presentation of the ATCO Gas historical collection will take place during the Formal Program of the Party Under The Dome, the Alberta Legislature building's centennial celebration, starting at 11:00 a.m. MST on September 2, 2012 at the Alberta Legislature building.
