Calgary Food Bank: The Annual City-Wide Food Drive -September 8, 2012

We're Hoping to Break Another World Record!

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 5, 2012) - The annual City-Wide Food Drive undertaken on behalf of the Calgary Food Bank is one of the largest and most successful food drives in the world. We broke a Guinness World Record in 2008 and while it was claimed by another city in 2010, we're hoping to bring the record back to Calgary this year! We need 560,000 lbs of food donated on September 8 to reclaim the record - and we need your help to get there!

This year's City-Wide Food Drive takes place on September 8, 2012. Over 350,000 Calgary homes will receive empty bags inviting Calgarians to fill them with non-perishable food and place them on their front porch for pick-up between 10:00 A.M. and 12:00 noon on Saturday.

To provide the media with a preview of the City-Wide Food Drive, and to let Calgarians know we're coming, we are hosting the following advance event:

What: A photo and interview opportunity with a family of volunteers delivering Food Drive materials to Calgary homes, and an interview opportunity with organizers.

When: Thursday, September 6th at 10:00 A.M.

Where: Scarboro Community Centre, 1727 14th Ave. SW

Hosted By: City-Wide Food Drive and Food Bank representatives

The annual City-Wide Food Drive comes at a crucial time for the Calgary Food Bank, arriving at the end of a traditionally slow time for donations, and heading into the Food Bank's highest period of demand. Over the past seven years, the annual City-Wide Food Drive has collected 2.6 million of pounds of canned and dry goods for the Calgary Food Bank.

The City-Wide Food Drive is coordinated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but the donations come from all Calgarians.
