IPTV Platforms From Broadcom Will Integrate DivX Plus Streaming

Supports the Delivery of a Consistent, High-Quality Digital Streaming Media Experience

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, Sept. 7, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IBC Driving digital entertainment innovation, Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq:ROVI) and Broadcom today announced that Broadcom's latest IPTV platforms will support DivX Plus Streaming. Lightweight and easy to deploy, DivX Plus Streaming brings features historically associated with Blu-ray Discs to the over-the-top entertainment experience. The joint solution will help media player manufacturers streamline the development and release of products that offer an advanced streaming experience. Rovi will be demonstrating DivX Plus Streaming, running on Broadcom's flagship BCM7241 IP set-top box platform, at IBC 2012, September 6 to 11, Hall 5, Stand A31.

The adaptive streaming solution, DivX Plus Streaming, not only dynamically adjusts streams to help deliver maximum visual quality based on available bandwidth, but also offers an advanced feature set with support for 1080p, subtitles, multiple language tracks, and trick-play functions such as smooth fast forward and rewind. DivX Plus Streaming expands the value of the already popular DivX Plus® HD Certification program, which brings these same advanced multimedia features to 'download to own' video content.

"As digital media consumption proliferates, consumers increasingly demand easy and high-quality streaming media experiences, regardless of network infrastructure," said Stuart Thomson, senior director of product marketing, Broadcom. "By supporting the very latest in DivX Plus Streaming capabilities, Broadcom continues to deliver the next-generation in digital living - enabling users to easily download, stream and enjoy content virtually anywhere, anytime."

"We are pleased Broadcom will integrate DivX Plus Streaming on their platforms and can begin to support manufacturers and retailers combining to provide consumers a high quality entertainment experience," said Matt Milne, EVP worldwide sales and marketing, Rovi Corporation. "For consumer electronics manufacturers as well as content owners and retailers, DivX Plus Streaming provides a true end-to-end solution for the secure encoding, delivery, and consumption of high-quality streamed video content; however, ultimately, it's about providing a better product that will drive increased usage and greater consumer satisfaction."

Broadcom's BCM7241 IP set-top box platform features a high performance CPU that supports over-the-top (OTT) content and services delivery with a full suite of Internet-based frameworks and applications. Additional key features include powerful 3D graphic performance, high speed memory and low power to meet new code of conduct requirements.

To develop DivX Plus Streaming, Rovi built upon core DivX® technologies recognized by millions of consumers around the world for delivering great video performance, visual quality, and multi-screen interoperability.
