Sudbury August Singles Starts Up Slightly from 2011

GREATER SUDBURY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 11, 2012) - According to preliminary data released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, there were 38 single-detached housing starts in the Greater Sudbury Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) in August, up from 37 last August.

"Despite the positive single-family starts news month over month, singles starts for the year are off twelve per cent with starts of semi, row and apartment units also trailing 2011. Employment growth has been rather lacklustre thus far despite significant positive news on the economic front focussed primarily on the mining sector" said Warren Philp, CMHC's Northern Ontario Market Analyst.
