Long-Time Buddies Share $2 Million Jackpot

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2012) - Playing the lottery together for more than 28 years paid off for two Victoria friends. Jimmy Sivertson and John Boyd matched all six numbers on their shared BC49 ticket to win a $2 million jackpot.

"It's exciting to be able to share this win together," described Jimmy. "We've been friends for a very long time and we even worked together for 20 years at the shipyards."

The two best friends will split $2,004,500 from the September 8, 2012, BC49 draw.

"John's always been in charge of buying the ticket because I lose everything," laughed Jimmy. "There have been times we've thought about changing our numbers but I'm glad we never have."

Jimmy will be buying a new boat and plans to share the rest of the prize with his children and grandchildren.

"I'm thinking about going to test drive a new hot rod and maybe we'll take a family trip," added John. "But I have a feeling we'll do whatever my wife wants to do."

The winning ticket was purchased at Haultain Grocery on Haultain Street in Victoria.

The two friends both said they will continue to play the same numbers.

BC/49 is a B.C.-only lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PT) that gives players a chance to win up to $2 million for $1. Tickets can be purchased at any BCLC lottery retailer or online at PlayNow.com.
