During the presentation ceremony, Sir Emeka Offor, founder of the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation and chairman of the Chrome Group (www.thechromegroup.net), a leading West African oil and gas conglomerate, also used the opportunity to follow through on his earlier pledge of N7 Million ($44,000 USD). He also promised never to abandon them in their times of need.

This was the seventh such check presentation ceremony since the inception of the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation Widowhood Scheme. The Sir Emeka Offor Foundation has so far provided a sum of N7 million for each of the seven Cooperative Societies as operational funds, which now totals N49 million ($310,000 USD) for all seven combined.

The Sir Emeka Offor Foundation's programs include the Youth Employment Scheme (YES), Widows Cooperative Scheme, Education Scholarship Scheme, Health Scheme Services and the Infrastructure Development Scheme. Under the Widows Cooperative Scheme, the women, who number some 2,000, are divided into seven Cooperative Societies, each of which is autonomous and operates different trades.

At the presentation ceremony, Sir Emeka Offor directed that the seven Cooperative Societies nominate two members each for sponsorship to India for training in modern cooperative activities. Last year he similarly sponsored their nominated members to Israel for pilgrimage.

The leaders of the Cooperative Societies will host the first Lady of Nigeria, Chief Dr. Patience Jonathan, who is scheduled to visit with them on October 27, 2012.
