Government of Canada Funds ManiganSes, Festival international des arts de la marionnette


SAGUENAY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 13, 2012) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, is taking the opportunity of this evening's premiere of the show La Quête du dragon, to announce that ManiganSes, Festival international des arts de la marionnette, has been granted funding toward its blockbuster multimedia show.

"By lending its financial support to ManiganSes, the Government of Canada is demonstrating its firm commitment to promoting the growth of tourism, a high-yield sector for the regional economy as well as the Quebec and Canadian economies," said Minister Lebel.

The Festival international des arts de la marionnette, which introduces theatre-goers to the world of puppets, is an important event for the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. It promotes cultural enrichment and contributes to enhancing the regional tourism offering, generating significant direct and indirect economic benefits and raising the region's international profile. The 12th edition of this major festival runs from September 13 to 23, 2012.

This $261,000 in non-repayable funding has been granted under Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program.
