Keller Rohrback Investigates Dangers to Child Safety Posed by Buckyballs and Other Rare Earth Magnet Toys

SEATTLE, Sept. 18, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Attorney Advertising. Keller Rohrback L.L.P. (www.krcomplexlit.com) announces that it is investigating the manufacturers of high-powered, rare earth magnet toys, which include Buckyballs® and Buckycubes™, regarding alleged injuries that have resulted from swallowing the magnets. These popular-selling magnetic toys are manufactured by Maxfield & Oberton Holdings, LLC/ Zoomdoggle. Our investigation also includes other magnetic toys that are marketed for general entertainment, including puzzle working, sculpture building, mental stimulation, or stress relief.

Recently, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) filed an Administrative Complaint against Maxfield & Oberton Holdings, LLC, alleging that "there may be an unreasonable risk of injury associated with children ingesting high-powered magnets that are part of magnet sets." Parents should be concerned if their child swallows any magnetic object. As stated by the CPSC, "when a child ingests a magnet, the magnetic properties of the object can cause serious, life-threatening injuries. When children ingest two or more of the magnets, the magnetic forces pull the magnets together, and the magnets pinch or trap the intestinal walls or other digestive tissue between them, resulting in acute and long-term health consequences."

If you know a toddler or child that has been seriously harmed by these or other similar magnetic toys, or you would like additional information regarding this investigation, please contact paralegal Bob McFadden or attorneys Havila Unrein, Gretchen Freeman Cappio and Michael Woerner at (800) 776-6044 or via email at consumer@kellerrohrback.com.
