Washington DC Surgeons Offer Blade-Free Laser Cataract Surgery

Eye Doctors of Washington Employ State-of-the-Art LenSx(R) Femtosecond Laser Techniques

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Nov 27, 2012) - Dr. Thomas Clinch and Dr. Paul Kang have adopted the LenSx® Femtosecond Laser at Eye Doctors of Washington, where they offer a number of vision correction procedures including cataract surgery and LASIK in Washington DC. The LenSx® Laser makes possible an innovative and revolutionary cataract surgery technique that offers a more precise and blade-free method of cataract removal.

According to Drs. Clinch and Kang, the LenSx® Femtosecond Laser is one of the most important recent technological advances in the field of cataract surgery. This computer-guided, surgeon-controlled laser has a number of advantages compared to traditional cataract surgery, including:

  • Greater surgical precision
  • No surgical blades for corneal incisions and anterior capsulotomies
  • Custom-guided laser, programmable for each patient
  • Decreased risks associated with traditional cataract surgery
  • Better management of astigmatism after the procedure

Left untreated, cataracts will progressively reduce clarity of vision and result in substantial vision loss. The LenSx® Femtosecond Laser is designed to help individuals with cataracts prevent further visual deterioration. Using a computer to provide the most precise image of the patient's eye as a guide, the LenSx® Laser creates small, corneal incisions or anterior capsulotomies to remove the cataract. If a patient is also having a standard or refractive lens implant placement in order to improve vision after surgery, that procedure can be performed as soon as the cataract is removed.

Eye Doctors of Washington is one of a few vision care facilities in the country to offer cataract removal with the LenSx® Femtosecond Laser, and was the first to adopt LenSx in Washington DC. LASIK and cataract surgeons Drs. Clinch and Kang say continued education is extremely important to them because providing the latest technology in vision correction can help ensure that their patients are receiving the best possible care.
