Former U.S. Congressman Michael Andrews Joins King & Spalding

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Dec 17, 2012) - Former U.S. Congressman Michael A. Andrews has joined King & Spalding as a senior counsel in its government advocacy and public policy practice, in Washington, D.C., the firm announced today. He will advise clients on an array of policy matters and their interactions with the federal government, especially on issues related to energy and health care. Andrews most recently was a lawyer in private practice.

"We are delighted to welcome Michael to our team," said Thomas J. Spulak, leader of King & Spalding's government advocacy and public policy practice. "He brings a deep understanding of the Beltway and public policy counseling to the firm. Given Michael's long tenure in the legislative arena, we know he will provide invaluable counsel to our clients."

Andrews was elected to the U.S. Congress in 1982 and represented the 25th congressional district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives for twelve years (1983-1995). He served as a member of the health care subcommittee of the Ways and Means Committee and was a member of the Budget and Joint Economic Committees. Andrews led bi-partisan efforts to draft and pass legislation important to U.S. energy and trade sectors, including advocating for energy tax incentives critical to the oil and gas industry. He also focused on the burgeoning renewable energy sector. In the private sector he continues to play a leading role in the drafting and passage of legislation important to the wind and geothermal industries and is a leading advocate to promote U.S. renewable energy policies.

Andrews received his law degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas. He is a trustee emeritus of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and author of a widely recognized book about the restoration of historic public buildings, Historic Texas Courthouses. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

"I am excited to be joining King & Spalding and look forward to helping our team of talented government relations lawyers and professionals continue the successful growth of the political law group," said Andrews.

King & Spalding was selected as the 2012 law firm of the year for government relations by both U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers based on feedback of clients and peers. The National Law Journal 2012 Influence 50 survey ranked the firm among the top 10 government relations law firms. King & Spalding has more lawyers highlighted in the national government relations category of the Chambers USA 2012 guide than any other law firm in the United States.
