Centenary College to Offer New Presidential Scholars Program

Selected Students Will Pay Less Than $7,500 in Tuition Their First Year

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ--(Marketwire - Dec 18, 2012) - Centenary College is pleased to announce a new, innovative program designed to attract future students to the Northwest New Jersey institution if they have demonstrated strong academic credentials during their high school career. Interested applicants must meet the minimum criteria of having a 3.4 cumulative high school GPA, as well as an SAT score of 1100 or equivalent ACT score. The new Presidential Scholars Program provides students who are selected with a 75% discounted rate of tuition for four years. This would equal an out-of-pocket tuition cost of less than $7,500 the first year.  Those who are chosen must maintain certain academic standards to be eligible for this benefit each year.

Unlike a traditional scholarship opportunity, the new Presidential Scholars Program provides unique leadership opportunities on campus to those who receive this honor. For example, students will participate in a Junior Year Academic Challenge in which they will be paired with a faculty member to conduct independent research.

"This new Presidential Scholars Program is a carefully crafted approach to financially rewarding students who have excelled academically and who demonstrate a drive to be an active participant in their own community," says Dr. Barbara-Jayne Lewthwaite. "The implementation and execution of this initiative is a testament to the institutional commitment to support our students and assist them with achieving their dream of pursuing a college education and receive the type of personal attention for which Centenary has become famous."

Applicants who are not selected for the Presidential Scholars Program can also qualify for many other scholarships that significantly reduce the cost of tuition.

Those who are interested in being considered for the Presidential Scholars Program must complete Admissions applications no later than January 15, 2013.
