Coach Canada, a Stagecoach Group Company, rolled out 15 new double-decker coaches this week on their Ontario and Quebec routes. In 2009, Coach Canada introduced the Megabus double-decker coach concept to great success in the Canadian market. This $11 million investment for 15 new coaches offers passengers a better ride, and an improved environmental impact.

"We are committed to providing Canadians with the most modern, comfortable fleet of highway coach transportation at the most affordable price," said John Emberson, President of Coach Canada. "In addition, these new coaches further reduce our carbon footprint, by reducing overall emissions."

For the passenger, the new double-decker coaches feature:

  • A better view from the upper deck with ceiling skylights running the total length of the coach
  • Improved lighting on the ceilings and staircases
  • Two extra tires on the rear of the coach to provide a more comfortable ride
  • Superior heating and air conditioning systems
  • Improved safety features

The 81-passenger double-deckers will continue to feature free WIFI, as well as power outlets and DVD video capabilities, panoramic views, two tables, reclining seats, a restroom, safety belts and mobility impaired accessibility.

Coach Canada offers 14 departures between Toronto and Montreal and 6 departures between Toronto and Buffalo daily. Prices start from $1 per person ($10 between Montreal and Toronto), one way and vary depending upon the day and time of departure. For bookings, customers must go online at: http://ca.megabus.com.

A Megabus double-decker has the potential to deliver over 500 passenger-miles per gallon. The 15 new double-decker coaches operate at the most stringent emissions regulations in the world. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has reduced both allowable NOx and PM levels by 90 percent compared to the levels in 2004.

Coach Canada employs 1,000 people and operates 500 vehicles in Canada. It is the largest motor coach operator in the GTA and also a major transportation provider in Montreal.
