F.A. Davis Using Sage SalesLogix CRM on Samsung Tablets to Alleviate Laptop Reliance and Increase Health Sciences Textbook Sales

Independent Publisher Receives Sage SalesLogix Inno Award for Mobile CRM Implementation

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - Jan 30, 2013) - Sage North America today announced F.A. Davis Company, an independent nursing, medicine and health sciences publisher, is using Sage SalesLogix on Samsung® Series 7 Slate PC tablets to support field sales operations. The CRM implementation is helping the F.A. Davis staff eliminate 250 hours of weekly data entry and has reduced the organization's reliance on laptops while increasing sales. F.A. Davis recently received the Sage SalesLogix Inno Award for its approach to mobilizing CRM.

"We have 25 sales managers and representatives who visit college, university and health institution instructors throughout the U.S. promoting selection of our textbooks and resources for their classes," explains George Ricciardi, F.A. Davis director of MIS. "We wanted to further leverage our CRM system and improve time spent with customers. Extending Sage SalesLogix to Samsung tablets delivered."

F.A. Davis reps previously carried laptops, which often required them to enter call notes and product sample requests into the CRM system at night for synchronization with a shared database.

The F.A. Davis MIS team and its Sage SalesLogix business partner, Infinity Info Systems, replaced laptops with PC-based Samsung tablets to help reps better access and enter data into Sage SalesLogix right as they meet with customers and eliminate the cumbersome routine of unpacking and booting up laptops for product demonstrations.

MIS piloted Sage SalesLogix on Samsung tablets with a selection of F.A. Davis sales reps for one month. Reps found they could more easily review accounts before and during meetings with instructors, and complete more actions like entering sample textbook requests while visiting customers. Multiscreening was also possible using monitors that were issued, so reps could work in Sage SalesLogix and another application like email at the same time in office settings.

Mobile CRM facilitates sales, naturally

Reps now accomplish the majority of sales tasks in real time while meeting with customers. Face time with customers has increased and product information pertinent to each customer, such as what books schools previously purchased, is readily at hand through the tablet CRM format.

F.A. Davis and Infinity Info Systems integrated Sage SalesLogix with the company's Oracle-based ERP system to handle all sample and product fulfillment, including UPS® shipment tracking, which is also accessible in Sage SalesLogix on the Samsung tablets.

Two lengthy account status reports are no longer needed with Sage SalesLogix operating on tablets, and each rep saves about two hours nightly by no longer needing to enter a day's worth of call notes. Reps can also easily show digital versions of textbooks to customers on the tablets and demonstrate resources like DavisPlus, an online library of teaching tools that correspond with specific textbooks. DavisPlus customer passwords can now be activated right within Sage SalesLogix on the tablets.

"Using Sage SalesLogix on Samsung tablets has certainly expanded how CRM benefits our organization," says Ricciardi. "Our sales team is no longer bound to heavy laptops or static reports, is conducting more natural and productive sales visits with customers, and is profiting from sales insights that more precise data management provides."

F.A. Davis next plans to customize a Sage SalesLogix tablet module that identifies which textbooks and supplementary learning materials are ideal for instructors based on their agendas and historical data, as well as transition from an on-premises to web version of Sage SalesLogix.
