Frisbee Rob to Attempt 2 Guinness World Records For Frisbee On Ice

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Jan. 31, 2013) - Rob McLeod, also known as Frisbee Rob, a resident of Calgary, Alberta, will be attempting 2 Guinness World Records during the Silver Skate Festival in Edmonton, Alberta on February 23-24. The 2 records will be for Maximum Time Aloft (MTA) and Throw Run Catch (TRC), the 2 components which make up the Self Caught Flight (SCF) event which McLeod finished 3rd at during the 2011 World Overall Flying Disc Championships.

"I've been skating since I was a year old and other than throwing a Frisbee, my best skill is skating" said McLeod. "These records are probably the most natural combination I could think of so I'm really excited to just get out and do them."

The current records are held by Tim Mackey, from Minnesota, who set the records more than 20 years ago in 1991. The current record for MTA on ice is 9.47 seconds and the record for TRC is 49.2 metres. These records are also recognized by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) so Rob will officially be attempting to set 4 World Records.

SCF is the event which is part of an Overall Flying Disc competition and the 2 components which make up the SCF event are MTA and TRC. SCF is when the competitor throws the disc into the air and has to catch it one handed. MTA measures the total time from when the competitor threw the disc to the point where they first touch the disc. TRC measures the distance from where the competitor threw to the disc to where they first touch it.

In practice 2 weeks ago, Rob unofficially broke both records with an MTA of 11.5 seconds and a TRC of 83.5 metres. Rob's goal is an MTA of over 12 seconds and a TRC of over 100 metres. He's confident he can achieve both of these goals and will have 15 attempts per day per record to do that.

If Rob is successful in breaking both of these records, he will add another 4 records to his current 6 World Records, bringing his total to 10 World Records, including 4 Guinness World Records. This would make Rob the most decorated World Record Holder in Flying Disc Sports in the world, a title that has been his goal since he set his first World Record almost 2 years ago.

Along with being a World Record Holder, Rob also competes in flying disc sports, including ultimate frisbee, disc golf, dog disc and overall flying disc sport competitions and he runs clinics, with a main focus of teaching others to throw better.
