Convictions Under the Fisheries Act, North Shore Area

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 25, 2013) - Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, has released a list of fishers fined in November and December 2012 and January 2013 for offences under the Fisheries Act.

The fines imposed on the offenders total $9,100. In addition, the value of the seized fish was confiscated from two offenders while the fishing licence of another was suspended. The offenders are:

Possession of whelks under the minimum legal size. $3,000 + suspension of whelk licence from April 8 to May 8, 2013.
Stephan Emond
(Portneuf-sur-Mer)
Failure to land entire snow crab catch under the supervision of a dockside observer. $3,000 + confiscation of the value of the seized fish ($448.64)
Bertin Landry
(Havre-Saint-Pierre)
Possession of five Atlantic halibut under minimum legal size. $1,300 + confiscation of the value of the seized fish ($212.43)
René Mills
(Jonquière)
Possession of fish from the Saguenay River recreational groundfish fishery processed to the point where it is difficult to determine their species. $300
André Moreau
(Godbout)
Aurélien Soucy
(Godbout)
Exceeding the recreational groundfish fishery quota. $350 each
Sylvio Morency
(Blanc-Sablon)
Fishing for cod during a closed time. $500
