Arla Foods Canada Issues Voluntary Recall

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 26, 2013) - Arla Foods Canada has issued a voluntary recall for imported Mauri Brand Gorgonzola Cheese supplied from Emilio Mauri S.p.A in Italy effective immediately.

The product and best before dates are as follows:

Arla Foods Canada is working in partnership with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to ensure the public safety and uphold the company's commitment to the highest standards for quality and safety.

Doug Smith President and CEO of Arla Foods Canada responded, "As leaders in the food industry, we take the safety of our product and well-being of our consumers as paramount. As an added precaution to ensure the public safety, we have pulled product from two additional best before dates outside of the recall of the Best Before date of April 7."

Low levels of Listeria monocytogenes were detected in samples of Mauri Gorgonzola Cheese which were recalled on February 25.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the recalled products.

Listeria may cause Listeriosis. The most common symptoms of Listeriosis are fever and muscle aches and vomiting. Anyone with these symptoms or suspect they may have been exposed to Listeria should seek medical attention.

Consumers who have purchased these products should discard them immediately. Consumers are eligible to be reimbursed and can return product to point of purchase for a refund or with a receipt, product label or empty package sent to Arla Foods Inc.
