Introducing Canadian MedicAlert Foundation's Newest Designer... 13-year-old Antonia Sinn!

Antonia Sinn is named the MedicAlert Student Design Competition winner. The sports band she designed is now available to all Canadians

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 12, 2013) -

Editors note: There are three photos associated with this press release.

For 3 years Antonia Sinn has worn a MedicAlert ID because of severe tree nut and fish allergies - but never expected to wear one that she designed herself! Since winning the MedicAlert Student Design Competition her design has been brought to life and is now available for everyone across Canada.

Appropriately titled Canadiana, the new sports band encompasses true Canadian spirit - depicting an array of colourful maple leaves. Sinn's design is now available for sale at MedicAlert.ca.

The MedicAlert Student Design Competition encouraged Canadian students to make school safety stylish by designing a new MedicAlert sports band.

"I entered the competition because I love to draw. Also because of my allergies, I know how important it is to wear a MedicAlert ID and be prepared for medical emergencies," says Markham, Ontario's Sinn. "I'm proud to have designed something that could help save the lives of other kids living with medical conditions. I hope my sports band design shows kids that MedicAlert IDs can be cool and that everyone can find a design they'll have fun wearing."

"We chose Antonia's design for its creativity and originality," says Robert Ridge, president and CEO, Canadian MedicAlert Foundation. "As an organization we strive to come up with new styles that make people feel good about wearing a MedicAlert ID and our selection has changed dramatically since the original stainless steel bracelet. The vibrant colours and Canadian feel of Sinn's sports band makes it an excellent addition to our collection."

The competition ran nationwide this past fall and was open to children ages five to fourteen. Honourable mentions go to Lauren Capponi (aged 8), Melissa Scalze (aged 12) and Nicole Schmidt (aged 13). Visit www.medicalert.ca/contest to view the honourable mention designs.

More than 65,000 Canadian students (aged 14 and under) are protected with a MedicAlert membership, so they have a constant companion to be their voice when it matters most. Nut and drug allergies are the number one reason why students have a MedicAlert membership - followed closely by asthma, diabetes and epilepsy.
