SoundCure Supports New Tinnitus Foundation, Draws Attention to Distressing Condition

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 18, 2013) - SoundCure Inc. will cosponsor the first fundraiser for The Tinnitus Foundation, a nonprofit established in Phoenix, AZ to fund research for the debilitating condition of tinnitus, or ringing in the ears.

The Tinnitus Foundation fundraiser takes place Saturday, May 11, 2013, with a 5K run at the Phoenix Steele Indian School Park, and ending at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale with top musical and comedic entertainers.

The Tinnitus Foundation is the brainchild of Tempe audiologist Dr. Allen Rohe, who seeks to improve the lives of people suffering with tinnitus, which affects 50 million U.S. adults - including about 240,000 in the Phoenix area, according to the American Tinnitus Association (ATA). Ten percent of sufferers have difficulty relaxing, concentrating, and sleeping; their quality of life is truly compromised.

"Tinnitus is now the number one service connected disability among veterans, with a projected $2.75 billion in reimbursements by 2016," Rohe said. "Yet in 2011, the combined total of all public and private funding in the U.S. for tinnitus research was only about $10 million. This imbalance is unacceptable and not sustainable."

Rohe offers suitable patients SoundCure® Serenade®, a handheld tinnitus treatment device with therapeutic sounds called S-Tones®. He treated Jesus Diaz, who had lost hearing in one ear and was plagued by a constant loud humming sound. After using Serenade, Diaz experienced silence for the first time in 10 years. He has also started to regain hearing in his left ear.

"With further use of Serenade I think my hearing will gradually come back," Diaz said. "And I haven't changed any habits like diet or exercise -- anything other than using the device. It has really, really helped me."
