Newtown Officers and Officials to Address NASRO School Safety Conference

Hoover, Ala., March 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Officials from Newtown, Conn., including Newtown police officers, will provide a keynote address at the National Association of School Resource Officers' (NASRO) 23rd annual School Safety Conference, July 14 to 19, in Orlando. Newtown School Resource Officers Jason Flynn and Lenny Penna, along with Lt. Richard Robinson, will discuss the response to and recovery from the December school shooting tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. After their presentation, the officials will participate in a panel discussion, allowing conference attendees to ask questions.

"It is critical for school resource officers and educators to maintain current knowledge of school safety issues and youth trends," said Mo Canady, NASRO executive director. "Unfortunately, the Newtown tragedy made this clearer than ever. Insights from the Newtown speakers will be invaluable and we're immensely thankful for their participation."

The NASRO School Safety Conference will bring together law enforcement representatives (including school resource officers), other school security and/or safety professionals, school board members, school administrators and others to receive training and participate in networking opportunities.

The conference offers attendees an opportunity to earn 32 hours of training; view an exhibit hall with the latest in products, technology and innovations; complete NASRO training courses on site at no additional charge; and interact with SROs, school administrators, sheriffs and chiefs of police from throughout the country and internationally. Available training includes NASRO's Basic SRO course, ideal for law enforcement officers who have recently been assigned to work in schools.

More information about the conference, including a complete agenda and online registration, is available at http://www.nasro.org/content/2013-nasro-conference.
