SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 26, 2013) - Parents Education Network (PEN) today announced that Sir Ken Robinson, TED speaker, celebrated author and internationally recognized leader in the development of education, creativity and innovation, will provide the keynote address for the organization's annual event, EdRev 2013, Unleash Every Child's Potential (Education Revolution) on Saturday, April 13. Now in its fifth year, EdRev offers a special day dedicated to understanding each child's individuality in learning as the basis for creating new educational environments.
"PEN is proud to host Sir Ken Robinson in this landmark year as we announce our new approach to learning that aligns itself to the emerging science of the individual," said Dewey Rosetti, founder, PEN. "This year, we aim to ignite an education revolution across the country based on understanding students as individuals and helping to promote the development of learning environments that are responsive to all students."
Since its inception in 2009, EdRev has provided a forum for students who learn differently, and their parents and educators, to learn about active participation in each student's education. EdRev's program centers on the emerging science of the individual in relation to learning through exhibits, workshops, community interaction and student centered activities while also providing education around how to support students who don't fit neatly in the current system. Through EdRev, PEN hopes to inspire parents, teachers and students through shared experiences, common learning and a sense of community.
"I believe passionately that we don't grow into creativity, we grow out of it," said Sir Ken Robinson. "What excites me about PEN is that the organization recognizes that in the right environment, each child can excel in his or her area of strength. If we provide an environment that nurtures talent, children excel."
PEN's approach to learning is aligned to the new science of the individual as articulated by Dr. L. Todd Rose, president, Project Variability, faculty member, Harvard Graduate School of Education and Dr. Kurt Fischer, faculty member, Harvard Graduate School of Education. This approach allows parents, educators and students to delve into the new science of the individual and explore ideas about ways that we can promote the development of new educational environments that nurture talent and fit the individual, versus the individual fitting the environment. EdRev is the only event of its kind in the country; more than 3,000 attendees are expected this year.
