'Extra' Win Is No April Fools' Joke

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - April 2, 2013) - When Attilio Campanile told his family he won $500,000, they were convinced it was an April Fools' joke. It wasn't until they scrutinized his ticket did they finally believe him.

Campanile was out for a walk on April 1st when he decided to check his lottery tickets. The 44-year-old Vancouver resident discovered he had matched all four numbers on the March 29, 2013 LOTTO MAX Extra draw to win the top prize.

Excited to share his news, Campanile called his sister and brother-in-law, but they didn't believe him. "That's the hard thing about April Fools'," laughed Campanile. "Nobody believes you!"

Other family members and friends didn't believe him either, until he showed them the winning numbers. The family celebrated together with a glass of champagne.

Campanile, says he buys lottery tickets every once in a while. "I always hope, every time I buy a ticket and check it," he said. "And yesterday when I checked it…well, that was something!"

With his half a million in winnings, Campanile intends to take care of his mother and travel to Italy.

The winning ticket was purchased at BMD Royal Market on Commercial Drive in Vancouver.
