MEDIA ADVISORY/PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Conference to Influence the Future of Energy Efficiency Initiatives in Canada

Thought Leaders Forum, organized by Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance (CEEA), to show where the opportunities are for achievable energy efficiency programs; CEEA to release results of national Energy Efficiency Survey; global expert to share his perspective

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 12, 2013) - The Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance (CEEA), Canada's leading, non-government, energy efficiency advocate, will hold its first ever Conference -- the Thought Leaders Forum - in Toronto today, Friday, April 12.

"We'll be influencing the future of energy efficiency initiatives in this country," says Elizabeth McDonald, President and CEO of CEEA. "The Thought Leaders Forum brings together experts in key areas of energy efficiency, to share their ideas and insights with our delegates."

The full-day conference features the release of a national Energy Efficiency Survey, commissioned by CEEA and conducted by The Gandalf Group. The survey, which reflects the opinion of more than 1,500 Canadians, provides a fascinating perspective on our attitudes toward conservation.

"The conference will be highly interactive," says McDonald. "In fact, the delegates themselves will contribute to an important White Paper on the most effective ways of expanding energy conservation in Canada."

McDonald emphasizes that the Thought Leaders Forum will focus on effective, practical ways to enhance conservation -- exploring ideas from across Canada, and around the world.

"We're excited to have visionary Tom Roper come from Australia to serve as our keynote speaker," says McDonald. "This is about sharing national and global best practices. We want to learn from each other."

Among the highlights of the Thought Leaders Forum are:

  • The release of CEEA's first annual survey on Canadian attitudes toward conservation, and the personal measures they're willing to implement
  • The development of an important White Paper, created by conference speakers and delegates, on the most effective ways of expanding energy conservation in Canada - the document will be released in early May
  • A keynote luncheon address by the Hon. Tom Roper, President, Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC), with a global perspective on energy efficiency and best practices around the world

The Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance (CEEA) is a broad based not-for-profit organization. It is the leading non-government, energy efficiency advocate in Canada. The Alliance was established in 1995 to respond to the lack of a coordinated multi-stakeholder effort to promote energy efficiency in Canada, leading to enhanced competitiveness and improved environmental protection.

The Alliance works in partnership with manufacturers, utilities, governments, builders, labour and consumer groups, and environmental organizations to facilitate the adoption of energy efficiency measures in Canada. The Alliance is supported through fees and project contributions from members.
