Government of Canada Supports National Center for Electrochemistry and Environmental Technologies

SHAWINIGAN, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - April 16, 2013) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, announces that the National Center for Electrochemistry and Environmental Technologies (CNETE) has been granted financial assistance for the acquisition of state-of-the-art laboratory equipment.

"By lending its financial support to the CNETE, the Government of Canada is confirming its commitment to making innovation the key to the country's economic future," said Minister Lebel.

The CNETE is a college centre for technology transfer established by Shawinigan College in 1993 whose mandate is to conduct applied research in the areas of bioprocesses, membrane separation processes, environmental technologies and electrochemistry. It provides information and technical assistance to clients operating primarily in the agri-food, industrial and pharmaceutical sectors.

The CNETE's project involves developing a technology platform for the production, separation and formulation of biomolecules for commercial applications, on a pilot scale comparable to industrial production and volumes. This funding from Canada Economic Development has enabled the Centre to acquire the leading-edge technological equipment needed to set up this platform.
