GreenButton(TM) Announces Support for OpenStack(R)

Adds More Flexibility and Choice for GreenButton Cloud Fabric Customers

PORTLAND, OR and SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 17, 2013) - GreenButton™, the leading provider of compute intensive and integrated on-demand cloud solutions, today announced its support of OpenStack®, the open source software for building public, private and hybrid clouds. This gives the company the ability to better support its enterprise customers' private clouds, as well as the plethora of public clouds being launched, based on the platform.

"We welcome the support of companies like GreenButton who are committed to building cloud architecture based on open source software and open standards," said Mark Collier, COO of the OpenStack Foundation. "As our community continues to grow, we are thrilled to see the innovative solutions our members are bringing to market, helping to deliver new open source solutions to the enterprise and produce the best cloud software in the industry."

OpenStack powers some of the most widely used SaaS applications and eCommerce sites, the world's largest public clouds, and Global 1000 enterprises. OpenStack is backed by an independent Foundation and global community of more than 8,800 members representing 850 unique organizations across 114 countries.

Adding OpenStack to the GreenButton Cloud Fabric platform gives any GreenButton enabled application or Big Compute/Big Data workload the ability to be dynamically deployed to any OpenStack powered cloud where GreenButton is running, without any changes to the application itself. Customers now have the choice on where they want to run their workloads, which is of particular interest to large enterprises wanting to leverage their private cloud investments and seamlessly burst to the public cloud of their choice, when they need additional capacity.

GreenButton Mission Control management and governance tools have been enhanced for those customers running multiple private and public clouds. In addition, GreenButton is also taping into NoSQL solutions such as Cassandra Project and OpenStack Object Storage software for the storage of metadata and inputs/outputs associated with customers' jobs.

OpenStack support also broadens the number of cloud service providers, such as Dell and HP, that can leverage GreenButton to differentiate their cloud offering and ultimately drive utilization of their service.

"We strongly advocate open solutions and offering choice for our customers to ensure their cloud strategy is providing the most value," said Dave Fellows, CTO of GreenButton. "With the growing popularity of OpenStack, it is an exciting addition to the GreenButton arsenal which also includes support for Azure, AWS and vCloud platforms. Running workloads seamlessly across customers' private and public cloud stacks is very compelling and many of these will include OpenStack."
