San Diego Plastic Surgeon Delivers Facial Rejuvenation Lecture at UCSD

As an Advocate of Continuing Education, Dr. Scott Miller Delivered a Lecture to the Medical Community Highlighting Facial Rejuvenation Techniques That Yield More Natural-Looking Results

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 23, 2013) - Dr. Scott R. Miller, a board-certified plastic surgeon in San Diego, strives to stay actively involved in the medical community in order to ultimately enhance the level of care patients receive. Dr. Miller most recently demonstrated his commitment to active medical involvement by speaking at the UCSD Division of Plastic Surgery Grand Rounds. His lecture, delivered to many board-certified plastic surgeons and several plastic surgery residents in training, covered contemporary techniques in facial rejuvenation with emphasis on dimension. Most notably, he focused on the double layer face lift technique which he says provides support, enhances shape, and maintains proportion - often resulting in a more natural and youthful appearance for patients.

In his lecture, Dr. Miller noted that while traditional facelift techniques often produce results that appear one dimensional, the dimensional facelift technique offers two distinct advantages:

1. The dimensional facelift focuses on the enhancement of the patient's natural facial features such as cheekbone fullness, jawline angles, and the transition between the face and neck.

2. The dimensional facelift can achieve a more natural look by supporting underlying facial tissues in addition to skin, often resulting in longer lasting results.

According to Dr. Miller, analytics show that the perception of beauty across multiple continents and cultures can be linked to factors such as the prominence of particular facial features, three dimensionality, and clear transitions from jawline to neckline. In regard to what he hopes his audience took away from his lecture, he says, "A naturally beautiful face doesn't occur in a flat plane," adding that an artistic eye and the proper surgical technique can provide patients with the beautiful, natural-looking results they wish to achieve. Furthermore, Dr. Miller says he hopes plastic surgeons will study the concepts he discussed and perform the techniques in a fashion unique to each individual patient.

Following his lecture, Dr. Miller received a compliment from Dr. Sam Spira, a retired plastic surgeon internationally regarded as an innovator in the field of Plastic Surgery. Commenting on the intricacies of the facial rejuvenation techniques, Dr. Spira showed appreciation for the insight and details shared during the lecture, says Dr. Miller.

In the end, Dr. Miller says he feels plastic surgeons should stay actively involved in lectures and continuing education because learning new techniques and raising the standard of care at one's practice directly benefits the patient. Regarding his opinion on the importance of lecturing, he says: "The opportunity to share my thoughts and approaches gives me the opportunity to reflect on my surgical approaches, as well as share and learn from others."
