Business Hotel in Kochi Initiates Environmental Awareness Month

Courtyard Kochi Airport Raises Awareness With Associates by Teaching Eco-Friendly Practices

KOCHI, INDIA--(Marketwired - Apr 25, 2013) - The commitment to going green means more than just recycling, and the team at the Courtyard Kochi Airport has banded together to raise awareness and learn practices to ensure a more eco-friendly lifestyle not only at the hotel in Cochin, but in their lives outside of work, too.

April kicked off the four-star hotel's first-ever Environmental Awareness Month, during which associates will participate in numerous events, from planting trees to expressing their environmental concerns through painting.

The month kicked off with Greener World Tomorrow, during which associates were given tree saplings. Prakash Jayadevan, GM of this Kerala, India hotel, used this as a symbol as a way to encourage team members to look at their dealings with the environment. "If each one of you decides to make a small decision to plant one tree a year," he said, "then you have made a big difference in this world." Each department then chose a location to plant their saplings and took an oath of solidarity to nurture their plants and preserve the environment.

During their next event, Express it in Color, the staff used art to express their environmental concerns. All of the artworks are currently on display in the lobby, and guests will vote on their favorite. Art was the medium for another event, Save the Earth, in which associates competed in a collage competition using newspapers and magazines to create themed works.

The other events for the month include:

Green Lunch: Associates will gather for a candle-lit lunch featuring organic dishes and tips on how to help the environment through changes at home.

WOW (Wealth Out of Waste): Associates will compete to create useful items out of used/waste materials to better understand efficient waste management, source segregation of waste and recycling waste.

Eco-Quizzes: Associates will be quizzed on environment-related questions and steps the hotel is taking to be more eco-friendly.

Movie screening: Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth will be screened to help associates understand the impact of their actions on the environment.
