Weir Oil & Gas Launches Industry's First Utility Drive-Over

Mathena Drive Over for Front Yard Use

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - May 6, 2013) - Weir Oil & Gas announced today the introduction of the industry's first utility drive-over with three safe conduits, providing secure passage for power, communications and water utilities on the rig site.

The patent-pending Mathena™ Utility Drive-Over is a new offering in Weir's line of process efficiency products, to help customers work smarter, safer and reduce total time to production. Mathena, acquired by Weir in December 2012, has a strong track record of developing surface control expertise and service to customers within drilling and completion operations. In addition, Mathena engineers and fabricates surface control equipment designed to meet the fast-changing requirements of onshore drilling environments. As part of Weir Oil & Gas Pressure Control, Mathena partners with Weir Seaboard, which adds Frac Flowback Services and Zip-Pack(SM) manifolds for well completions to its product lines this month. The two businesses enable Weir to offer equipment and support across the pressure and surface control equipment markets.

The Mathena™ Utility Drive-Over eliminates the time-consuming task of digging trenches to bury utility lines by replacing plastic models, which typically offer only 2-inch line capacity. The Mathena Utility Drive-Over allows up to 4-inch utility lines to be run and is better able to withstand frequent movement of rugged rig equipment and vehicles that occurs during the process of drilling a well at the front yard of a drilling location.

John Mathena, Mathena President, said, "We're very proud of this new technology. It was designed and created in direct response to our customer needs. The preliminary concept was initiated by the Mathena team, identifying customers' evolving needs while on location. We believe creating efficiencies in process is key to being a good partner."

The Mathena Utility Drive-Over prepares site entrances for operation by lying flat across the ground to safely cover utility lines, including electrical, water and communication cables. The unique design prevents line damage which can be caused by traditional trenches and will hold up under the weight of the heaviest equipment, including 170,000 pound cranes.

The patent pending design enhances safety and ensures the individual integrity of the electrical conduit, plugs, water lines and communication cables as well as reducing overall set-up time of digging trenches. With a length of 20 ft., it can interconnect to provide continuous site access and line protection.
