Huntington Learning Center Honors Charter Schools During National Charter Schools Week

ORADELL, NJ--(Marketwired - May 9, 2013) - Huntington Learning Center joins educators, lawmakers and communities across the nation to celebrate National Charter Schools Week May 5-11. The annual celebration publicizes the successes of charter schools and encourages lawmakers to support their states' efforts to strengthen and expand charter school offerings.

According to the Center for Education Reform, the first charter school opened 21 years ago in Minnesota and today, more than 2.3 million students are enrolled in more than 6,000 charter schools throughout the United States. In his May 3, 2013, Presidential Proclamation of National Charter Schools Week, President Barack Obama stated, "These learning laboratories give educators the chance to try new models and methods that can encourage excellence in the classroom and prepare more of our children for college and careers."

"Huntington Learning Center has worked with many charter schools in the last decade and has had the opportunity to see their work in action," said Dr. Raymond Huntington, founder and chairman of Huntington. "It is exciting and inspiring to see such innovation at these open-enrollment schools, many of which serve some of the country's most disadvantaged students. Huntington is thrilled to support schools that are dedicated to helping prepare our country's students for bright, successful futures."

During National Charter Schools Week, the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools will join state representatives in Washington D.C. to advocate on behalf of public charter schools everywhere. The Alliance also recognized five public officials for their outstanding service to the families and students of the public charter school movement.
