11th Annual Canadian Brewing Awards in Victoria

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 12, 2013) - On May 11th, 2013 the 11th annual Canadian Brewing Awards presentation was held at The Inn at Laurel Point in Victoria, British Columbia. There were 764 beers in 38 categories entered into this year's competition, representing 120 Canadian breweries. Awards of gold, silver or bronze were given to the top three scoring beers in each category. The judging was conducted in Toronto over five days by 43 BJCP-certified beer judges in a blind tasting.

The awards presentation took place at the 2nd Annual Canadian Craft Brewers Conference. This two-day industry-only event featured guest speakers and seminars geared to Canadian brewers' interests and professional development. There was also an intimate tradeshow floor where industry suppliers and event sponsors were able to meet with Canadian brewers in a relaxed, informal setting.

The CBAs again recognized one brewery for outstanding achievement, with Toronto, Ontario's Great Lakes Brewery being awarded as 2013's Brewery of the Year. This year's Beer of the Year, for the highest scoring single entry beer in all categories, was awarded to Powell Street Craft Brewery from Vancouver, for their Old Jalopy Pale Ale, in the North American Style Pale Ale category.

The Canadian Brewing Awards and the Canadian Craft Brewers Conference are owned and operated by TAPS Media, publishers of Canada's only national beer magazine.
