Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund: Government of Canada Funds Modernization of a Community Facility in Municipality of Lyster


LYSTER, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - May 13, 2013) - The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry and Minister of State (Agriculture), today announced, on behalf on the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, that the Nelson Council Knights of Columbus have been granted financial assistance to modernize and enhance the accessibility of their community hall in Lyster.

"By supporting this project of the Nelson Council Knights of Columbus, the Government of Canada is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities", said Minister Paradis.

The Nelson Council Knights of Columbus project involves expanding the existing building, adding an elevator to improve access for persons with limited mobility, renovating the common areas and rebuilding the roof.

"Our Government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security," concluded Minister Paradis.

This assistance, granted in the form of a $126,000 non-repayable contribution, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.
