SoundCure Supports Tinnitus Awareness Week, Marks One-Year Anniversary

Sound Therapy for Ringing Ears Helps Patients Find Relief

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - May 16, 2013) - As Tinnitus Awareness Week commences, (May 19-25), SoundCure®, along with the American Tinnitus Association and tinnitus sufferers will draw attention to this common but often overlooked medical condition. This also marks SoundCure's one-year anniversary helping people find relief with the Serenade® sound therapy device.

CEO Bill Perry states, "Tinnitus Awareness Week is an excellent chance to look at the challenges of tinnitus care and awareness, and progress achieved. We believe tinnitus can almost always be treated and patients' lives improved, and we are proud to partner with hundreds of clinics nationwide to bring an excellent sound therapy option to sufferers."

Tinnitus, also known as ringing in the ears, affects about 50 million Americans. Ten million are plagued by constant sounds that can disrupt everyday life. Tinnitus is also the primary service connected disability for U.S. veterans, with a projected $2.75 billion in reimbursements by 2016.

In April 2012, SoundCure Inc. launched Serenade, a handheld device specifically designed by hearing researchers to bring relief to tinnitus sufferers. Serenade's hallmark is S-Tones®, proprietary treatment tones customized to each patient. Research suggests S-Tones may interfere with the perception of tinnitus and can potentially bring relief acutely or over time when used as part of an ongoing management program.

US veterans gained access to Serenade via the VA system in August, and it became available in the U.K. in April 2013.

One patient, Joyce Greenfield, described her tinnitus as a high pitched mechanical ringing sound that wouldn't go away. After using the Serenade device Greenfield said, "Now I hear my tinnitus like background noise, kind of like my tropical fish tank. It's like I've turned down the volume on my tinnitus."

SoundCure is a corporate sponsor of the American Tinnitus Association (ATA) and the British Tinnitus Association (BTA) and routinely supports the awareness efforts of affiliated members.
