New England Cognitive Center Receives Prestigious 2013 MetLife Foundation MindAlert Award From American Society on Aging

Organization Also Releasing Second Editions of Programs on CD/DVD, Facilitating Nationwide Webinar in June, and Translating Programs Into Spanish

NEW LONDON, CT--(Marketwired - May 29, 2013) - The New England Cognitive Center (NECC), a non-profit organization that develops innovative research-based cognitive fitness programs, recently won the 2013 MetLife Foundation MindAlert Award from the American Society on Aging (ASA) for its groundbreaking Mind Aerobics Suite™ of programs for early-stage, cognitively impaired older adults. NECC Executive Director Patti Celori Said was presented the award during the National Forum on Brain Health at the Aging in America annual ASA conference in Chicago.

The award-winning Mind Aerobics Suite provides older adults with comprehensive mental workouts designed to maintain or improve cognitive functioning. The programs attempt to stimulate the six major cognitive areas of the brain and have been developed to meet the needs of older adults, ranging from those at normal levels of cognitive functioning to those with moderate Alzheimer's and dementia.

In addition to this prestigious award, 2013 is shaping up to be a milestone year for NECC in several other ways. NECC is in the process of releasing the second editions of all of its programs on CD/DVD, making them easy to disseminate and highly affordable. On June 13, NECC will facilitate a one-hour webinar, "Fight Back: NECC Cognitive Programs for Battling Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia," available to ASA members across the nation. An overview and the implications of the programs will be presented, including a discussion of related efficacy studies. Currently, NECC's Ready Mind™ program is being translated into Spanish, making it more accessible to millions of people across the United States and around the world.
