Women of Inspiration: Offering Support, Knowledge Transfer & Education, and Outreach to Women Injured at Work

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 31, 2013) - The Women of Inspiration Injured Workers' Group is holding a press conference at 4:00pm today, calling for justice for injured workers who are suffering from heavy-handed WSIB policy changes. The press conference will be on the steps of Queen's Park, where injured workers and their supporters will camp out overnight as a lead-up to Injured Workers' Day on June 1^st.

The overnight vigil at Queen's Park symbolizes the many injured workers who are forced to go sleepless due to physical pain and emotional distress. The Women of Inspiration feel that if they are in pain and isolated in their homes at night, then why not show the government and WSIB that they are sleepless by spending the night at Queen's Park.

"The WSIB is focused on a bonus for its President rather than on treating injured workers with dignity," says Women of Inspiration member, Maryam Nazemi. "How can President David Marshall sleep at night, knowing that his policies keep injured workers awake with fears of poverty and uncertainty?"

Today's press conference will include a presentation from the Industrial Accident Victims' Group of Ontario (IAVGO) about their campaign featuring injured workers offering their last pennies to Premier Kathleen Wynne. "We want Premier Wynne to know that the WSIB has already taken everything else, so they might as well take our last pennies too," says IAVGO's Airissa Gemma.

"The cuts we're seeing today are the worst in the history of workers' compensation in Ontario," says President of the Ontario Network of Injured Worker Groups, Karl Crevar. "It's unacceptable, and we demand that David Marshall be held accountable."
