Media Advisory: Remarkable Family Caregivers to Receive 2013 Heart of Home Care Award


TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 4, 2013) - VHA Home HealthCare will present the ninth annual Heart of Home Care Awards to four inspirational family caregivers.

Who: Award Recipients
Leomina Valderrama is a mother, breast cancer survivor, and primary caregiver to her 11-year-old son Brendell who is non-mobile, non-verbal and has cerebral palsy. Despite Brendall's health challenges, Leomina is incredibly positive and thanks God for her blessings.
Kelly Beatty, also a breast cancer survivor and a mother of three, provided 24-hour care for nearly 16 years to her husband David, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. David passed away earlier this year.
Jose Lino is a single father whose 37-year-old daughter Marta has developmental delays and behavioural problems that require round-the-clock care. Since her birth, Jose has cared for Marta, providing bathing, dressing, toileting needs, and much more.
Jenni Ward's eight-year-old son Blake is hearing impaired and has many cardiac challenges. Jenni is Blake's rock, providing significant personal care and social and play stimulation. She always has a smile on her face regardless of the situation.

Dr. Tiffany Chow is a neuroscientist and author of The Memory Clinic: Stories of Hope and Healing for Alzheimer's Patients and their Families. She will share her professional and personal perspectives on the impact of Alzheimer's and dementia, and the role caregivers have in comforting those with conditions that affect memory.
