Media Advisory/Georgetti to Appear at Senate Banking Committee on Bill C-377: CLC Says Withdraw the Bill

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 5, 2013) - On Thursday, June 6, Ken Georgetti, President of the Canadian Labour Congress, will appear as a witness before the Senate committee studying Bill C-377. Georgetti will also be available to respond to questions from the media.

Bill C-377 would force every labour organization in Canada to file detailed financial information to be posted publicly on a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website. The bill singles out unions and their members for discriminatory treatment and it interferes with their right to freedom of association. Credible experts appearing before the Senate banking committee say the bill invades the personal privacy of individual Canadians and is almost certainly unconstitutional. The CLC believes Bill C-377 is not needed and is so deeply flawed that it must be withdrawn.
