COLOGNE, GERMANY--(Marketwired - Jun 5, 2013) - ANGA COM 2013 -- Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced a range of initiatives that help make comprehensive pay-TV security integrity and flexibility more available to the public broadcaster and Free-to-Air (FTA) community around the world. As a component of these initiatives, Verimatrix has developed a solution to support a digital terrestrial deployment approach for FTA, Free-to-View (FTV). This is also compelling for pay-TV terrestrial and cable operators that are transitioning from analog to digital broadcasting and may ultimately desire to offer advanced broadcast, multi-screen and hybrid services.

The full range of these security configurations and phased deployment approach are described in a new solution brief "Applications of Content Security to Terrestrial Broadcast Services" available at

Verimatrix has customized its Verimatrix Content Authority System (VCAS™) for DVB solution to be embedded in cost-effective set-top boxes (STBs) and later enabled to manage cross-border transmission issues and enable future upgrades to pay-TV services. Through the latest cardless security techniques, support for pay-TV and advanced services can be added to the solution without the cost and logistical complexity of distributing hardware tokens or smartcards. Additionally, operators and vendors can prepare for hybrid broadcast/broadband deployment by embedding support for VCAS for Internet TV and/or VCAS for DASH in the products they deploy.

The advantages of building a multi-network delivery infrastructure include harmonized security and a cost-effective upgrade path for the public broadcast and the FTA communities, even in cases where direct monetization of video services is not an immediate goal. Historically, the capital cost and logistics of deploying STBs has been a barrier for these types of operators. However, advancements in broadcast and IP technologies and creative business approaches have largely eliminated such challenges.

"If a broadcaster could add DRM or conditional access tomorrow it would, even on a free to air delivery. But this has previously been too expensive and for little benefit," said Peter White, principal analyst and founder, Rethink Technology Research Ltd. "Verimatrix has shown how nimble it can be by reducing the price barrier for encrypted broadcasts. It's what we have come to expect from the leading innovator in the sector."

The Verimatrix VCAS architecture is perfectly suited for flexible deployments of video security, especially with combinations of traditional broadcast linear content and Internet enabled catch-up or on-demand services. Verimatrix is at the forefront of cardless security solutions that fully exploit advances in chipset technologies used in today's video devices and enable digital deployments in a highly cost-effective manner.

"Our new range of technical and commercial solutions optimized for the broadcast and FTA communities addresses a diverse set of security challenges that these operators face," said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. "Issues like ensuring national license fees are employed fairly, dealing with rights management in an environment of extreme cost pressures, and the move to hybrid network delivery standards, really demand a flexible and extremely scalable approach to security."

Verimatrix is demonstrating its robust and comprehensive revenue security solutions at ANGA COM 2013, June 4-6 in Cologne, Germany in Hall 10.1, Booth M10, and at CommunicAsia 2013, June 19-22 in Singapore at booth #1M2-07.
