Forget China and Crystal, New Bed Tops Newlyweds' Nuptial Gift Wish List

Other "Wedding Bedding" Survey Findings Call Out Couples' Complaints About Snoring and Crumbs in Bed

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jun 11, 2013) - Wedding season is officially here, and according to a recent survey by Sleepy's, engaged couples have bedroom behavior on the mind (in more ways than one!).

In fact, a new bed tops the list for "newlywed must-haves," with nearly half of engaged Americans ranking it first among desired home goods. Nearly half (40 percent) of those who want to marry with a pristine mattress have romantic intentions. Twenty five percent say they want to ditch their bed -- and the memories of exes that come with it -- for the chance to start freshThe results disprove the "jealous girlfriend" stereotype, with men showing more concern that old mattresses conjure old flames than women (60% to 40%). Fifteen percent confessed that they hope a new bed will improve romance, with men more than twice as likely as women to say so.

"After healthful sleep, bedded bliss is a secondary goal in the bedroom," says Sleepy's consultant Dr. Robert Oexman of the Sleep to Live Institute. "Research supports that mattress comfort and quality are linked to intimate relations, since adequate and restful sleep is important to well-being. In fact, studies show that those who enjoy better sleep quality have even reported fewer food cravings, a more refreshed appearance, and a decrease in negative moods -- all which help enhance love life!"

The survey also shows that love isn't blind: over half of those polled admit that they have an undesirable bedtime habit that their significant other is trying to make them break before they walk down the aisle. Unsurprisingly, sleep talking/snoring tops the list, with 26% of those polled bothered by a partner's habit. Midnight snacking and crumbs in bed nearly tie at 24%. Fifteen percent say their mates get annoyed by their early bedtime, and 12% say their childish sleeping habits -- snuggling with a stuffed animal and/or needing a nightlight to fall asleep -- tick off their loved ones.

So, what do couples want most after purchasing a new bed? A third want a new car, followed by dining room furniture (10%), flat screen TV (8%), and art (3%). Most couples plan to spend between $501 - $1,000 on a new mattress (41%), and 28% will invest over $1,000.

In addition to mattresses and bedding, Sleepy's has several other products that can help set the mood, including no-snore deluxe pillows, a spa kit gift bag, a soothing body wrap, and more. For more information on Sleepy's and its products, visit http://www.sleepys.com.
