BCG Partners With TED to Explore Ideas That Are Transforming Business and Society

Cocurated Events Will Build on BCG's Yearlong 'Game Changing' Program, Highlighting the Most Fundamental Management Issues Facing Leaders as the Firm Marks Its Fiftieth Anniversary

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND--(Marketwired - Jun 11, 2013) - The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), one of the world's leading management-consulting firms, today announced details of its 2013 partnership with TED, the influential nonprofit dedicated to "Ideas Worth Spreading."

BCG and TED will cocurate events this October in Singapore and San Francisco. Titled TED@BCG and featuring a series of TED-style speeches, roundtable discussions, and leadership training, the two events will bring together prominent executives and thinkers from industry, nonprofits, and academia to examine how organizations and leaders are addressing today's most critical management issues. In addition, a variety of curated online and offline content will be offered. Details of the collaboration were announced at TEDGlobal 2013, an annual conference held in Edinburgh, Scotland.

"BCG's ideas, insights, and client work have had a major impact on the way business has been approached and conducted over the past fifty years," said Rich Lesser, BCG's president and CEO. "In TED, we have a strong partner to help us explore some of the key challenges and opportunities facing leaders today. Engaging incisive minds from a diverse range of backgrounds is a passion at the core of both BCG and TED."

At the heart of BCG's partnership with TED is the firm's Game Changing program -- an initiative aimed at tackling the most fundamental dynamics facing leaders at this time of unprecedented turbulence. The program aims to promote breakthrough solutions for transforming the fortunes of business and society. As part of the Game Changing program, BCG has identified five key requirements for successfully managing in an age of accelerating change. (For more, click here.)

"We live in a particular moment. Our certainties and assumptions about the world near and far are challenged daily," said Bruno Giussani, TED's global director, who will be hosting the TED@BCG events. "The collaboration with BCG will allow us to explore relevant new ideas about change and reinvention."

The Singapore gathering will engage participants on the theme "The Shape of Change," and in San Francisco the topic will be "Reinventing the Rules." TED will also curate custom-made editorial videos, including a dedicated library of talks that underscore the impact of Game Changing ideas, leaders, and institutions. This content will be available on BCG's and TED's YouTube channels and will be supported by a digital campaign on TED.com and TED Mobile Platforms.

TED released the first "playlist" of 15 talks during TEDGlobal 2013. The playlist features talks from notable thinkers such as Melinda Gates, Clay Shirky, Robert Neuwirth, and Eduardo Paes. It can be viewed here.

The TED@BCG initiative is one of a series of BCG partnerships exploring the Game Changing themes. Other partners include renowned content organizations such as the Financial Times, photographic cooperative agency Magnum Photos, and designers Kram/Weisshaar.

About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California almost 30 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes on a diverse mix of topics. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Isabel Allende. The TED2014 Conference will take place next spring in Vancouver, British Columbia, along with the TEDActive simulcast in neighboring Whistler.

TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; and TEDBooks, short e-books on powerful ideas. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

The BCG Game Changing Program
For 50 years, The Boston Consulting Group has been helping leaders anticipate and respond to a changing world. Today, radical shifts in the global economy and a relentless rise in uncertainty have altered the competitive landscape. To help leaders capitalize on the emerging opportunities, we have condensed the results of our experience with companies and governments around the world into a series of publications devoted to five important requirements for success: the growth imperative, the fitness factor, the adaptive mindset, the two sides of connectivity, and the perpetuity principle. This publication is part of that program. For organizations to own the future, they must change their game. BCG can help you master this challenge.
