DHL Express Canada and U.S. Department of Commerce Launch New Trade Initiative

- Global Buyers Initiative to connect international importers from Canada to U.S. businesses

- Local companies will benefit from DHL's trade expertise and resources of the U.S. Commerce Department's International Trade Association

- New advantages include access to U.S. suppliers, market information and leads to potential buyers and sellers

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 12, 2013) - DHL Express and the U.S. Commerce Department today announced a new initiative that will provide DHL customers in Canada with a wide range of business resources, including useful trade and marketing information, business leads, access to new suppliers in the U.S. and access to potential buyers and distributors.

Through the partnership, announced at the Oil and Gas Expo, DHL Express Canada and the U.S. Department of Commerce will match DHL customers in Canada with U.S. manufacturers or sellers who are already exporters or who are interested in reaching markets in the United States. This new partnership between DHL with the U.S. Commercial Service (USCS), the export promotion agency of the Commerce Department's International Trade Association, provides benefits both to U.S. companies seeking new contacts in Canada, and to DHL customers in the region, who will obtain expert advice on exports from the U.S. specific to their industry, valuable leads and marketing information provided by the USCS and the U.S. embassies and consulates as well as other benefits.

"This is an important opportunity for our customers in Canada," said Andrew Paul, Head of Commercial, DHL Express Canada. "Through the Global Buyers Initiative, companies in Canada can link up with U.S. suppliers specific to their field, attend influential trade shows like the Oil and Gas Expo to meet potential buyers and distributors and receive support on international sales and marketing, as well as U.S. government financing and other programs. These new trade-related resources will be valuable business tools for companies of all sizes."

This new partnership combines the Commerce Department's extensive knowledge of U.S. manufacturers and suppliers and international trade with DHL's proven international expertise and extensive customer base in Canada.

The partnership is anticipated to benefit the oil and gas industries in Alberta as the program will feature widespread collaboration between suppliers in the U.S. and manufacturers in Canada. International oil companies in the Canadian oil sands grew in recent years providing multiple opportunities to U.S. small-to-medium-sized businesses that support the project with parts, tools and MRO (maintenance, repair and operations) equipment.

"Customers in the energy sector have been using DHL Express to move documents, urgent parts and repairs all over the world where oil and gas is explored," said Paul. "As the specialists in international logistics, we are focused entirely on supporting our customers in this sector with cross-border opportunities and growth and helping them thrive in the global marketplace."

With a newly enhanced Americas hub in Cincinnati including new state-of-the-art sorting capabilities and expanded infrastructure, DHL Express connects its customer in Alberta to every corner of the U.S. and the rest of the world. In 2012, Alberta and the Alberta oil sands projects accounted for 11.1 per cent of DHL Express Canada's revenue, and 9.6 per cent of the company's Canadian shipments. DHL provides not only transportation for these businesses, but also timely information that is critical to production planning in the oil industry. DHL Express also provides small-to-medium sized businesses with an express service to ensure overnight service inbound and outbound to Alberta.

Because all of DHL Express employees are CIS certified and its customs partners are certified customs specialists, DHL ensures customs compliance, currently achieving 92 percent clearance on arrival. Additionally, the management team at DHL Express Canada are professionally licensed brokers, allowing for even more oversight and expedient service.
