Death of an Inmate from Port-Cartier Institution


LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - June 12, 2013) - On June 10, 2013, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Roger Ranwez, an inmate from Port-Cartier Institution, died of apparent natural causes at the Archambault Institution hospital.

At the time of his death, Mr. Ranwez, 46, was serving an indeterminate sentence for Second Degree Murder. His sentence had commenced on June 16, 2004.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
