Lockdown and Exceptional Search at Grande Cache Institution

GRANDE CACHE, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 21, 2013) - At approximately 16:15 hours on June 20, 2013, Grande Cache Institution was placed on lockdown in order to facilitate an exceptional search of the institution. The search is a result of the discovery of unauthorized items in the institution.

The search is being conducted to ensure the ongoing safety and security of the institution, its staff and the inmates. The safety and security of our institutions is the primary consideration for the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC). The institution will re-open as soon as searching is complete and the Warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so.

Visits will be suspended until the search has been completed.

CSC is committed to preventing contraband from entering institutions. Our efforts help to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, and promote a rehabilitative environment for inmates. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against inmates and others who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
