Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund: Inauguration of Saint-Prime Marina

SAINT-PRIME, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - July 6, 2013) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, today participated in the official opening of the Saint-Prime Marina. Last January, the non-profit Marina was granted financial assistance to upgrade and expand its facilities.

"Our Government believes that community economic and social development also depends on modernizing tourism and recreational infrastructure. That is why it chose to support the Saint-Prime Marina's improvement project," said Minister Lebel.

The Saint-Prime Marina project involved the replacement of the 52 docks and the addition of 28 boat moorings. The Marina also replaced the fuel tank, did electrical rewiring, installed a cabin for fishers and improved the drinking water supply. In February or March 2014, the lake will be dredged to remove accumulated bottom sediments. Since the site of the marina is used by both recreational boaters and fishers, this project will greatly improve the quality of life of the entire community.

Information:

Funding for this project, granted in the form of a $237,000 non-repayable contribution, was awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.
