LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - July 8, 2013) - On July 8, 2013, at approximately 00:06 a.m., Giuseppe De Vito, an inmate from Donnacona Institution, was found unresponsive in his cell. Correctional Officers and medical staff immediately performed CPR and paramedics were called.

The inmate was taken to the Centre hospitalier de l'Université Laval, where he was pronounced dead at 1:26 a.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. De Vito, 46, was serving an 11 year and 7 month sentence for import / export of drugs and commission of offence for a criminal organisation. His sentence had commenced on June 20, 2012.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
