Nouveau Monde Announces the Discovery of Important High Grade Flake Graphite Zone on Its Matawinie Property

GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - July 8, 2013) - Nouveau Monde Mining Enterprises Inc. ("Nouveau Monde") (TSX VENTURE:NOU) is pleased to report the assay results of its recent prospecting and surface sampling exploration program on the Matawinie graphite Property (or the "Property") located in the St-Michel-des-Saints area, some 140 km North of Montreal, Québec. The field work, conducted in late May of 2013, targeted electromagnetic anomalies provided by the regional airborne geophysical survey carried-out earlier this year by Nouveau-Monde (See March 26th 2013 Press Release).

CHANNEL SAMPLING

Channel sampling on the Property returned 15.16 % Cg over 5 m. Five (5) consecutive samples, each measuring 1 m in length and approximately 4 cm in width, were collected on the Ti-Nou showing located on the property block sharing the same name (Table 1). The channel samples were oriented perpendicular to the foliation observed in the host paragneiss outcrop. The channel samples were cut at the bottom of a hand-dug trench measuring a total of 5 m in lengh, 1 m in width and having an average depth of 0.9 m. This trench is easily accessed by vehicle and located on the side of a forestry road. Graphite mineralization at the bottom of the trench is open in all directions and is coincident to an electromagnetic airborne anomaly measuring about 2 km by 250 m.

Table 1: Summary of results from the channel samples collected over a length of 5 m on the Ti-Nou graphite showing.

Sample # Length Cg (%) S (%)
TN-TR01-01 1 m 13.9 3.52
TN-TR01-02 1 m 18.8 0.95
TN-TR01-03 1 m 14.75 0.34
TN-TR01-04 1 m 17.5 0.05
TN-TR01-05 1 m 10.85 1.37

GRAB SAMPLES

A total of 33 grab samples from graphite-bearing paragneiss outcrop and subcrop were collected in late May over 4 blocks forming the Matawinie Property. Of those grab samples, nine (9) returned significant results ranging from 5.08 % Cg to 16.8 % Cg (significant results are defined as greater than 5 % Cg for the purpose of this press release). These results further expanded the graphite mineralization observed in the area during a reconnaissance property visit made in 2012.

Table 2. Summary of significant results of grab samples collected during the May 2013 prospecting and sampling exploration program:

Sample # Cg (%) S (%) Property Block
1053714 16.8 3.12 Ti-Nou
1053737 15.45 0.7 Ti-Nou
1053726 7.7 1.23 Ti-Nou
1053733 7.31 2.02 "A"
1053730 6.29 0.56 "A"
1053734 6.1 4.3 "A"
1053724 5.57 2.74 "D"
1053719 5.4 2.57 "E"
1053727 5.08 2.83 Ti-Nou

All samples were analyzed by ALS Minerals of North Vancouver (B-C), under the laboratory internal analytical code C-IR06. This type of analysis uses a LECO analyzer which measures the organic carbon contained in a rock sample. It is assumed that all organic carbon measured by the LECO analyzer is from graphite contained within a sample.

MATAWINIE PROPERTY

The Matawinie Property consists of six group of claims located about 140 km north of Montreal. The claims are contained within a 50 km radius just North of St-Michel-des-Saints in the Matawinie regional county municipality, Province of Québec. Nouveau Monde has an option to acquire 100% interest in the property (see February 12th 2013 press release for details). These claims are located at the Eastern limit of the highly prospective Central Metasedimentary belt of the Grenville geological province, host to many active graphite projects. The host rocks in that region are graphitic crystalline marbles and paragneiss, similar to the host stratigraphy at Timcal's Lac des Iles graphite mine, currently Canada's only producing graphite mine.

Eric Desaulniers, president & CEO of Nouveau Monde, stated: ‟Our exploration program on the Matawinie property area is a good example of our ability to generate quality projects from grassroot to drill-ready in underexplored territories using our expertise in implementing regional remote sensing and geophysical campaigns in the right geological context. The excellent exploration results achieved during the ground follow-up phase are leading us to start a drilling campaign in the upcoming weeks."

QUALITY CONTROL AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

The Matawinie property exploration program was supervised by Antoine Cloutier, Géo (Québec), B.Sc. A strict protocol including the insertion of duplicate and blank samples within the sample stream was adopted as part of a quality assurance, quality control (or QA/QC) program. Verification, preparation and sample submittal for the May 2013 prospecting campaign was completed by M. Cloutier.

All samples were analyzed for organic carbon (Cg) content by a LECO analyzer (ALS code; C-IR06) at the ALS Minerals laboratory located in North Vancouver (B-C), Canada. This laboratory is accredited with the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 17025 certifications. Sulfur (or "S") as well as a suite of elements was analyzed by ALS Minerals using ICP-AES and ICP-MS methods (ALS laboratory code; ME-MS61) following total digestion by four acid; perchloric, nitric, hydrofluoric and hydrochloric.
